The Lives of Others

Recently I saw this German movie, The Lives of Others. This movie is set in 1984, that is 5 yrs before the fall of the Berlin Wall, which marked the beginning of the unification of East and West halves of Germany. Those and preceding years in communist/socialist countries were blotted with a scary system which required strict allegiance to the goverment by every citizen irrespective of how he felt about or viewed the actions of the government. Slightest deviation from the expected behaviour, which was, 100% belief and respect to the GDR; in form of a public or even private expression of dissatisfaction concerning the government would put him under the scanner of STASI.
